Europe: future trends and challenges for the real estate market 2021/2022

This video is the first in a series of insights from Allen & Overy partners on the trends and challenges in the real estate market across Europe. Chris Woolf, Global Head of Real Estate discusses key developments in the European market and considers the future of European real estate investment.

Chris considers the flight to quality and rebalancing which he has seen in the fall out from the Covid-19 pandemic.  He discusses the increased diversification in the market and the growing appetite for operational assets to achieve higher yields. He highlights certain national differences, which will be explored in more detail during the course of this video series and notes other emerging trends affecting the sector as a whole. He focuses on digitization and the importance of of ESG and sustainability considerations as driving forces for change.

There is also is a growing recognition in the market that as we emerge from Covid-19, sustainability initiatives represent a chance to get things right – it is about ensuring that buildings and investments are relevant and resilient in the carbon neutral world of the future.
