Gauthier heads the Belgian Public Law department, and is member of Allen & Overy’s International Environment, Climate and Regulatory Law Group steering committee.

He heads the Belgian sustainability team and sits on Allen & Overy's global sustainability board. He advises companies on planning and environmental law, ESG and sustainability (disclosures, reporting, policies), business and human rights, focusing on permits for real estate and energy projects, waste, contaminated land, hazardous substances and noise nuisance. He also assists public authorities, companies, banks, public-funded entities and utilities on all types of public contracts, including public-private partnerships (PPPs), public procurement and large transactions, such as concessions (water distribution, waste management etc). Gauthier has a thorough practical understanding of the different procedures, approaches and strategies required to deal with complex environmental and public law issues, and has extensive litigation experience in these areas of law before the administrative, civil and criminal courts, as well as before the European courts.

Gauthier advises on compliance with REACH and other EU chemical regulations, as well as with EU product regulations (including ELV, Batteries, WEEE and RoHS) and waste regulations. He also specialises in climate change, advising on change regulations (including EU ETS, CO2 emission rules for vehicles and other CO2 reductions mechanisms) and on energy transition.
