Allen & Overy lands new U.S. Marketing Chief, Margie C. Hinckley

Allen & Overy (“A&O”) today announced that Margie Hinckley has joined the firm as Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer of the Americas. She is based in the New York office and joins from Ropes & Gray where she spent nearly two decades, most recently serving as a global Director of Client Development.

In her new role, Margie will oversee business development and the range of marketing activities supporting Allen & Overy’s continued investment in its U.S. operations, with a particular emphasis on fostering deep client relationships.

Karen Seward and Kent Rowey, U.S. Co-Chairs, said in a joint statement, “Margie’s breadth of experience across the marketing and business development landscape, especially in the industries core to our areas of focus, makes her an excellent addition as we continue to advance our U.S. offering. This is a pivotal year of growth for Allen & Overy in the Americas, and Margie will add substantial value to our clients.”

“Margie’s hire is a key component to our U.S. growth strategy, happening at a pivotal point in our firm’s growth journey, and I look forward to working closely with her as we elevate our global business,” said Michael Michaelides, Global Chief Marketing Officer.

Margie is a seasoned marketing, business development and commercial strategy executive, with experience working across multiple geographies and sectors, including life sciences, technology and financial services. She brings an expansive scope of law firm expertise, including client and organizational strategy, strategic planning and execution and new market expansion.

Margie commented: “What an inspiring time it is to join this elite global firm. There are endless opportunities to show current and prospective clients our best-in-class, wide-ranging capabilities, and I look forward to working with the talented professionals and partners to continue A&O’s growth trajectory in the U.S.”

Margie joins A&O following two recent notable announcements. The first is the release of the firm’s annual results, showing notable growth both globally and in the U.S., including adding over 40 lateral partner hires and doubling the firm’s U.S. partner headcount in the past three years. The second recent notable announcement is A&O’s proposed merger with New York-based Shearman & Sterling. The combined firm would have nearly 4,000 lawyers, 49 offices and tally revenues of about $3.4 billion, pending final firm votes.

A graduate with honors of Wheaton College Massachusetts (B.A.), Margie also received certificates from the Columbia Business School and the NYU Stern School of Business for accounting and finance and achievement in innovation leadership, respectively.
