Professional regulation of Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP

Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP has been authorised by the LSRA to operate as a limited liability partnership (LLP) with effect from 3 October 2022.

As a result of its operation as an LLP, and in accordance with the Act, subject to certain exceptions as provided for in the Act, individual partners in Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP have no personal liability for any debts, liabilities or obligations which are incurred for the purpose of carrying on the business of Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP (whether these are liabilities of Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP or any partner, employee, agent or representative of Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP), however such liabilities arise.

Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP's operation as an LLP does not prevent or restrict any enforcement against the property of Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP in respect of any debt, liability or obligation which it has incurred.

Except as modified by the Act, the provisions of the Partnership Act 1890 apply to Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP.

Complaints

If you are a client and you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the service provided to you by Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP, we would ask that in the first instance you contact the Partner responsible for the matter or your Client Relationship Partner who will be happy to discuss the matter with you.

If the matter is not resolved, you are entitled to make a complaint to the LSRA in accordance with Part 6 of the Act. In accordance with the Act, if you wish to dispute our bill of costs, or any part of it, you can avail of the following procedure: 

  • Contact the matter partner by telephone to discuss this matter informally.
  • If you dispute our bill, you are required to send us a statement in writing setting out the nature of the dispute, within 21 days of the bill being provided to you. Upon receiving this statement, we will take all appropriate and reasonable steps to attempt to resolve the dispute with you by informal means which may include, with your consent, mediation.
  • You may refer the dispute to mediation.
  • You may refer the dispute to the Legal Costs Adjudicator for adjudication – contact details can be found here. If the bill is reduced by less than 15%, you shall be responsible for paying the costs of adjudication.
  • In the event our bill (or any part of it) remains unpaid for 30 days from the date of this invoice, we may make an application to have our bill adjudicated by the Legal Costs Adjudicator.

Professional indemnity insurance

Allen & Overy (Ireland) LLP maintains compulsory professional indemnity insurance of at least €1.5 million for each and every claim as required by the Law Society of Ireland.
