David Campbell

David is a partner in A&O's banking department and has a wide range of expertise which includes investment grade and leveraged finance, restructurings and distressed refinancings, trade finance, and acquisition finance for public and private bids in the UK, US, Europe and Australia. He has acted for most major banks and his corporate relationships include several FTSE-100 and FTSE-250 companies. He has a particular focus on the Nordic region and works with several major Swedish, Norwegian and Danish banks and corporates.

David has a huge variety of experience from his 20+ years of practice across different sectors and financing structures. This means he can often find novel but pragmatic solutions where traditional financing solutions are not appropriate. In recent years he has led the financing teams on, for example, the restructurings of several trading companies (requiring a novel form of syndicated trade finance arrangement which has become accepted in the market), the financing of investment into a milk co-operative, the leveraged buy-out of a Norwegian oil services company, other financial restructurings of companies in manufacturing and pharmaceutical sectors, borrowing base facilities, financings secured on art portfolios, acting for the noteholders to a football club, advising the lenders to a Bollywood film producer, as well as numerous general corporate credits.

David is heavily involved in A&O's response to LIBOR transition, our use of new technology to streamline banking transactions, our community and pro bono efforts, and our work to improve the diversity of our firm (with a particular focus on social diversity).

David is a leading lawyer in Banking & Finance, praised as "very collaborative, supportive and very pragmatic in understanding what we are trying to achieve and how he can support us whilst protecting the risk from a banking perspective." His broad practice includes leveraged and acquisition finance, with sources noting his expertise in investment-grade matters. David is further praised because "he gets things done in a really sensible way and is a pleasure to deal with." CHAMBERS GLOBAL 2020: BANKING & FINANCE

The "fantastic" David Campbell garners praise for his expert handling of investment grade matters. His international practice spans leveraged finance to acquisition finance matters, with his clients including major banks and FTSE-100 companies,” CHAMBERS UK 2019: BANKING & FINANCE

“Clients praise David Campbell's "balanced and commercial approach, and deep experience in banking documentation." He is well regarded for his expertise handling investment-grade matters for a variety of banks and corporate clients, with notable strength in acting for Nordic clients.” CHAMBERS UK 2018: BANKING & FINANCE
