Javier focuses his practice on restructuring and insolvency. Javier has participated in a wide range of restructurings and insolvencies globally. He has taken part in major insolvency proceedings in Spain, such as Martinsa-Fadesa, Marme, Isolux, Habitat, Mediapro, Nozar, Marsans, Noriega, Alteco-Mag Import or Aifos, with an active participation in all of them representing al types of creditors and group of creditors. He is also specialized in the enforcement of all types of securities (with a special focus on financial collateral) and defence of derivative instruments within the context of a preinsolvency or insolvency.
During the last years, Javier has been deeply involved in Spanish Schemes and debt restructuring, where he has also defended at Court the validity of the cram-down vis-a-vis dissenting lenders.
He has also wide experience on civil and commercial litigation regarding financial instruments and documentation.
He usually collaborates, as probono work, with the Spanish DEC.
Javier lectures in insolvency and litigation in the University of Navarre, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Esade.
Javier is recommended for his excellent work in Chambers & Partners. In 2019 Javier was awarded as Lawyer of the Year in Litigation in the Iberian Lawyer’s Forty under 40 Awards.
