Oil and Gas

Allen & Overy's market leading Oil & Gas practice advises governments and NOCs (National Oil Companies), IOCs (International Oil Companies), Independent Oil and Gas Companies, and funders (debt and equity) on all aspects of the oil and gas supply chain, including upstream (exploration and production), midstream (storage and transportation), downstream (fuels and lubricants, marketing and refining, retail and chemicals) and LNG.

Allen & Overy's integrated energy practice continues to be at the forefront of the oil and gas sector, advising IOCs, NOCs, independents, governments, funders (equity and debt) and oilfield services companies on market leading transactions across the full spectrum of upstream, midstream and downstream matters, including within the LNG sector. Increasingly, we are working with our clients to help them on their journey towards net zero, including on green fuels, blue hydrogen and carbon capture and sequestration projects.

Our experience of contractual and economic frameworks for oil and gas projects is extensive. We advise upstream clients on the grant, purchase, exchange, sale and financing of petroleum exploration and production interests throughout the world, whether based on licences, production sharing agreements or service contract buy-back structures. We also regularly undertake the drafting, negotiation and review of production sharing, joint operating and unitisation agreements, LNG structures and approaches and pipeline construction, operation, transportation and loading arrangements. On crude oil, petrochemical products and natural gas/LNG sales agreements, we advise on all varieties of spot, term and life-of-field contracts and on the take-or-pay provisions that form the basis of many project financings throughout the world.
