Neville Cordell



Neville specialises in all areas of IP litigation and advisory work. He has wide experience of patent, trade mark, passing off, internet domain name, copyright, design and confidential information disputes. His experience includes: proceedings before the High Court, Court of Appeal and European Court of Justice; in arbitration; before Trade Mark Registries; under internet domain name; and company name procedures.

Chambers 2017 states that “Neville Cordell has a comprehensive IP practice which takes in transactions, litigation and due diligence involving all core rights. One client says: ‘He is extremely knowledgeable, has an excellent understanding of the law and is very good on tactics’”. WTR1000 2016 describes “litigation and advisory ace Neville Cordell” as “‘a shining star in an excellent group’. ‘He runs things well and provides really strong leadership.’ A pristine track record helps him to hammer out exceptional deals during settlement negotiations". Artificial intelligence is the most significant risk to businesses globally, according to directors

IP owners to pay the costs of blocking access to infringing websites

The UK Supreme Court has unanimously ruled that trade mark owners should pay the costs of implementing a court order requiring UK ISPs to block access to websites selling counterfeit goods. This is a reversal of previous decisions, which had required the ISPs to bear these costs. Rights holders will still be able to obtain blocking injunctions, which are an effective means of tackling online infringements, but have to indemnify the ISPs for the reasonable compliance costs of putting these orders into effect in the UK.
