Barry Irwin



Barry has a wide range of experience in the energy and resources sector, with a focus on mining, oil & gas, renewables and related infrastructure projects. He has advised clients in Australia and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Barry has been involved in a range of substantial cross-border transactions including structuring new projects, project acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, design engineering and construction, contract mining, mining and oilfield services, marketing arrangements, commodities sale and purchase contracts, the negotiation of concessions with governments and has assisted his clients on applicable legislative regimes (including those dealing with foreign investment in various jurisdictions).

Barry is a member of the Mining Law Committee which forms part of the Section on Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law of the International Bar Association. In this capacity, Barry is one of the principal contributors to the Model Mining Development Agreement initiative.

The Asia Pacific Legal 500 2012 recommends "the very responsive and knowledgeable" Barry as a leading practitioner in the energy and resources sector. He is named as one of the leaders of the field amongst the world's mining lawyers in the International Who's Who Legal 2011. Barry has been voted by peers as one of Australia's Best Lawyers (2011 and 2012) in Mining.
