Tom is an associate in Allen & Overy’s Asia Pacific Competition practice after previously working in the Litigation practice.
He has particular experience in cross-border regulatory investigations, commercial litigation and merger clearance matters. Tom has acted for large corporations from various industries including tech, banking and finance and consumer products. In 2018, Tom completed a five month secondment at Google, in relation to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Digital Platforms Inquiry.
Experience highlights including advising:
- Google in the ACCC's Digitial Platforms Market Inquiry and subsequent ACCC Digital Advertising Services Inquiry and Digital Platform Services Inquiry, together with other competition law issues.
- Asahi Group Holdings in relation to obtaining ACCC merger clearance for its AUD 16bn acquisition of Carlton United Breweries.
- Google LLC on its USD 2.6bn (AUD 3.8bn) acquisition of Looker Data Sciences.
- ASSA ABLOY on its acquisition of AM Group, a leading manufacturer of industrial doors with operations across Australia, US and the UK.
- Chow Tai Fook Enterprises on its reported AUD 4bn plus acquisition of Alinta Energy.
- A major global investment bank in relation to internal investigation and dealings with regulators in various jurisdictions concerning alleged cartel conduct in respect to FX trading in the Asia Pacific region.
- Reckitt Benckiser in relation to proceedings commenced by the ACCC in respect of alleged breaches of Australian consumer law and a subsequent class action commenced on behalf of consumers.
- A large financial institution in relation to an anti-bribery investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
