Michelle Dawson is an Executive Manager in Allen & Overy’s strategic and regulatory consulting practice.

Michelle joined A&O Consulting from Westpac Bank where she led the Risk Governance function, accountable for the effective and efficient management of risk committees to support Westpac’s compliance with CPS 220 and other regulatory/prudential obligations.

Other former roles at Westpac include advising on legal and strategic elements of the bank’s response to the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry. Michelle also played a key role in the Principle Leadership team as part of the CGA Self-Assessment Team, responsible for undertaking Westpac’s Governance, Accountability and Culture Self-Assessment Prudential review. Following this, she was appointed to the AUSTRAC Response program, where she was responsible for supporting the independent, external accountability reviews in connection with the Westpac Financial Crime Response Plan.

Prior to this, Michelle spent more than 10 years working across a number of corporate and product legal teams. She also has been directly involved in advising senior management on organisational responses to emerging regulatory issues including conduct risk, breach reporting, executive accountability, data ethics and organisational culture, and has been involved in a number of regulatory change and transformation projects.
