Matt is a partner in the global Projects, Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure practice, based in our Los Angeles office. He represents companies engaged in the development, construction, financing, acquisition and disposition of solar, wind, storage and other energy projects, as well as corporate planning, debt and equity investments and divestitures in the energy sector. Matt provides advice on project design and transaction structuring at every phase of project development and financing, from project inception to equity investment to construction and permanent financing, representing sponsors, cash and tax equity investors and lenders. He also counsels clients on real estate aspects of the project development and finance transactions.

Matthew is a ranked lawyer in Chambers USA, Projects: Power & Renewables: Transactional (2020-2022); and in Projects: Renewables & Alternative Energy (2023). He is recognized as a Next Generation Partner in The Legal 500 US in Energy: Renewable/Alternative Power (2020-2023) and Project Finance: Advice to Sponsor (2019). He advised the sponsor on the IJGlobal North American Storage Deal of the year (2020) and was part of the group named IJGlobal’s Best Legal Advisor – Tax Equity (2020).

  • AES Clean Energy on tax equity and debt financing of numerous portfolios of C&I and small utility scale solar projects (over X projects), including community solar in numerous states.
  • Amp Solar on the tax equity and debt financing of a four-project 29.4 MW Massachusetts Community Solar portfolio with 42 MWh of battery storage, valued at approximately $100 million.
  • Advantage Capital on several tax equity investments.
  • SunPower on numerous tax equity joint venture partnerships across residential and C&I portfolios.
  • CarVal Investors on a joint venture to purchase 33 operating C&I solar projects.
  • Group of tax equity investors on its investment in a portfolio of approximately 55 C&I solar projects across five states.
  • Large independent power producer on the tax equity financing of 12 operating wind farms located in eight states with a combined capacity of 947 MW, monetizing future tax attributes that will be generated primarily by wind projects acquired out of bankruptcy.
  • Group private equity funds on the negotiation of a master purchase agreement to acquire PACE-financed real estate loans from an originator and in the acquisition of the underlying loans.
  • Sponsor on the tax equity, construction debt and hedge transactions for two utility-scale wind projects in Texas.
  • Large independent power producer counseled on the PPA and real property rights negotiations with the offtaker and with tax equity financing of a portfolio of up to 64 commercial solar projects.
