Mark advises on all aspects of both contentious and non-contentious employment law matters. These include issues on the transfer or takeover of businesses, contracts of employment and employment policies, restrictive covenants, employee representation and trade union issues, dismissals and redundancies and discrimination. He also has substantial experience in dealing with multi-jurisdictional employment issues, ranging from mergers and acquisitions to outsourcing and individual and collective dismissals. Mark regularly handles High Court and tribunal work and conducts litigation. He is an accredited mediator.
He is recognised as a ‘Star Individual’ in the latest edition of Chambers UK, which observes that ‘Real class act’ Mark Mansell receives high praise for his ‘technically superb work’ and ‘highly composed and commercial’ approach." The latest UK Legal 500 also observes that he "provides ‘flawless’ advice, and is recommended for his experience in board level and particularly sensitive matters.
Relevant experience includes advising:
GlaxoSmithKline on the employment aspects of its GBP1.35bn disposal of its nutritional drinks brands Lucozade and Ribena to Suntory Beverage & Food, the Japanese consumer goods company.
SSL International on the employment aspects of its GBP2.54bn takeover by Reckitt Benckiser.
Virgin Money on the employment aspects of its proposed acquisition of Northern Rock.
Electronic Arts on the employment aspects its acquisition of Playfish and Chillingo.
Facebook, Inc. on the employment aspects of its acquisition of Monoidics Ltd and other transactions.
FRM Holdings on the employment aspects of the USD82.8m sale of its shares to a subsidiary of Man Group.
News Corporation on the employment aspects of its demerger into two separate companies, 21st Century Fox and News Corporation. The value of the newly demerged publishing business is approximately GBP4.9bn.
Mark has also advised News International on a range of employment issues arising out of the high profile closure of the News of the World and the related investigations into all News International titles.
BlueBay in its defence of the High Court proceedings instigated against it by an ex-employee for an alleged breach of contract. We were successful and were awarded costs on an indemnity basis.
