James focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation, including patent and trade secret matters. Leveraging his prior experience prosecuting automotive and electro-mechanical patents and his background in physics and structural engineering, James is able to quickly become familiar with the technology and legal issues that arise during the course of litigation.
Prior to joining A&O, James regularly assisted clients in obtaining patent protection for their innovations, including drafting patent applications for mechanical components, weapon systems, and enterprise software; and prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent & Trademark Office for autonomous vehicle systems, micromechanical sensors (MEMs), automotive components, and enterprise relationship management software.
Noteworthy experience includes advising:
- Rio Tinto on patent infringement action involving aluminium alloy in the District of Delaware.
- Denis Cimaf on patent infringement action involving heavy mulching machinery in the Southern District of Ohio.
- Touchstream Technologies on patent infringement action involving content casting technology in the Southern District of New York (previous firm experience).
- Uni-Systems LLC on patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation action involving stadium retractable roof technology in the Eastern District of New York (previous firm experience).
