Frits heads Allen & Overy Amsterdam's Intellectual Property team. He is an experienced IP litigator, handling cases concerning the enforcement and validity of trademarks, design rights, copyrights, patents and other intellectual property rights. His experience includes taking fast and, when needed, pre-emptive measures against IP infringements such as obtaining ex-parte injunctions and seizure measures by the Dutch Customs Service, preventing the import of infringing products.
In addition, Frits handles IP transactions and provides advice on commercial contracts and transactions in which intellectual property rights play an important role. He has broad experience in drafting and negotiating license agreements and structuring IP portfolios.
Frits was commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs to educate Dutch companies on the use and optimisation of their IP portfolios in a national three year programme. He is also one of the chief editors of the main Dutch website on IP news (IE-forum.nl).
In the 2018 edition of Chambers Europe, sources praise him as “highly experienced and very pragmatic". In the 2018 publication of Legal 500 clients described Frits as a ‘very experienced, business-oriented strategist’.
