Busisiwe Nhlapo

Senior Associate

Busisiwe is a senior associate in the litigation team of the Johannesburg office. 
She focuses on all areas of corporate and commercial litigation and dispute resolution including alternative dispute resolution, such as arbitrations. She advises a multitude of clients on compliance, particularly in public procurement and related legislation. Her focus is on administrative law, class actions and international arbitrations. She also has broad experience in risk advisory including being involved in major corporate and white-collar crime investigations and advises clients on business ethics, anti-corruption and regulatory compliance.

Experience

Pro bono

Delivered training sessions to journalists from Daily Maverick on anti-bribery and corruption, public procurement, and the rights of journalists in South Africa.

Conducted legal research and prepared research note for Strategic Response International, a human rights organisation, on the decriminalisation of homosexuality and the protection of the right to dignity, association and other human rights of LGBTQI+ persons in various African countries.

Facilitated a workshop for candidate attorneys from the Equal Education Law Centre, a public interest law clinic, on statutory interpretation.

Conducted legal research and drafted a research note for the Vance Centre, an international pro bono network, on the prevalence, causes and legal responses to sexual harassment in the workplace in Africa, with a comparative analysis of the relevant legislation, policies and case law in selected countries.
