China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (CSFTZ) was formally established on 29 September 2013 covering an area of 28.78 square kilometres including the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Bonded Logistics Zone, the Shanghai Pudong Airport Free Trade Zone and the Yangshan Free Trade Port Area.
Though seemingly insignificant in size, the establishment of the CSFTZ is widely heralded as the prelude, if proved to be successful, to a much broader reform of the financial markets and liberalisation of the entire China market.
