Over the last two months, the industry have seen a number of proposals from both the European Commission and ESMA in relation to the MiFID Review.

In this article we consider those publications most relevant to wholesale financial markets participants focusing on the Commission’s “quick fix” Covid-19 proposal, ESMA’s reports on pre and post trade transparency requirements, data reporting and the functioning of OTFs. The volume of proposals published already indicates that many aspects of the MiFID II framework are on the table for review, and the end legislative outcome could involve some significant and substantial revisions to the regime.
