The exponential growth in the use and complexity of the Internet of Things (IoT) in recent years has resulted in exciting developments for businesses and benefits for the consumer. The IoT relies on complex interdependencies between data, hardware, software and telecommunications networks and can be combined with other technology such as artificial intelligence and blockchain. This gives rise to many legal issues such as intellectual property rights and cybersecurity. Data generation is a key feature of the IoT and with data comes the question of rights over the data as well as data protection considerations at all stages of the design process.
