The UK left the European Union (EU) on 31 January 2020, and the transition period agreed between the EU and the UK is due to end on 31 December 2020, with any further extension to that period ruled out by the UK Government.

But what does this mean for data protection? What are the practical implications for companies operating internationally, particularly those reliant on transfers of personal data between the UK and the EU? What impact does the recent judgment of the CJEU in the so-called “Schrems II” case have?

In this updated guide, we seek to answer these questions, both in relation to the transition period and post-transition.
