Australia's Convergence Committee provided its Interim Report to the Federal Government in December 2011, industry submissions closed in early February 2012 and a Final Report is due in March.

It proposes to alter both the structure of the regulatory agencies and the models under which they operate and also to change the rules that currently prevent a range of mergers between different media groups. The issues under discussion have parallels in a range of other markets.
