The one-day accelerator convened junior and mid-level bankers to provide an in-depth look at the legal underpinnings of leveraged finance transactions

On October 22, 2019, A&O hosted its third annual Leveraged Finance Training Camp (“LFTC”), offering junior and mid-level banking and credit professionals an in-depth look at the latest trends in leveraged finance, the legal underpinnings of transactions, and an opportunity to network with fellow market participants.

The event brought together nominees from the top firms in the industry for a dynamic discussion of the topics and deals that have defined the modern leveraged finance landscape. Approximately 150 rising banking and credit professionals from 30 major financial institutions, spanning investment banks and direct lenders, attended the program, including delegates from the largest players in the U.S. market by deal volume and value.

“We are seeing greater volume of leveraged finance transactions than ever before and a proliferation of new terms, covenants and tactics, making it more important than ever that the legal and banking communities connect and collaborate to execute deals,” said Todd Koretzky, a partner in A&O's New York Leveraged Finance group. “I am proud to be part of a firm like A&O that is committed to fostering these relationships and the careers of the next generation of professionals. This year’s LFTC participants were engaged and energetic, leaving the event with a better understanding of the latest trends, terms, challenges and solutions, but also an established network and greater resources to solve the challenges they may face.”

Highlights of the event included presentations from A&O partners and senior associates covering topics including the anatomy of a leveraged capital structure; fundamental provisions and issues for commitment papers, bridge financings, and syndicated credit agreements; borrower self-help techniques; the primary differences between U.S. and European transactions; and market trends.

Participants responded with overwhelmingly positive feedback, with 100 percent of survey respondents indicating they would recommend LFTC to others.

Philip Bowden, Co-Head of Global Banking, commented: “Our U.S. Leveraged Finance platform has advised on over 75 deals valued at over USD75 billion over the past few years, and that success is testament to the relationships we have built and continue to foster with bankers, funds, sponsors and other experts across the industry."
