Nick Marchica joins Allen & Overy’s U.S. Private Equity practice
07 December 2020
Allen & Overy today announced that Nick Marchica has joined the firm as a partner in A&O’s U.S. Private Equity (PE) group based in New York.
Marchica’s deep experience advising PE and corporate clients on M&A transactions will complement Allen & Overy’s established practice advising leading PE funds and multinational corporations on U.S. and cross-border transactions.
“Allen & Overy has been expanding its U.S. PE practice since 2017, and the addition of Nick to our talented team augments our offerings across the full spectrum of strategic M&A,” said Tim House, U.S. Senior Partner at A&O. “One of our key strategic priorities is to expand significantly our presence here in the U.S. across all of our practices, enabling us to continue to serve our elite roster of clients on their most important initiatives. Nick’s arrival is another step toward that goal, and we expect to maintain that momentum and extend our reach,” said House.
“The expansion of our U.S. PE capability is a natural tie-in to the strength of our U.S. Leveraged Finance practice and our international deal capabilities, which are foundational pillars of our growth strategy,” said Bill Schwitter, Chair of A&O’s U.S. PE practice.
The PE market is one of the most active corners of today’s U.S. corporate finance market. PE transactions reached record levels totaling $507.3bn across 3,577 deals in 2019, representing, respectively, a 15.7% and 14.5% increase from the same period in 2018. Despite the onset of the pandemic, the first quarter of 2020 kept pace with 2019 and saw an estimated 885 deals with a value of $150.8bn.
“Allen & Overy served as a home for me early in my career, and I am excited to return at a time when the private equity industry is set to continue breaking records on deal values and volume,” said Marchica. “In re-establishing myself at A&O, I will be surrounded by some of the world’s brightest attorneys and one of the most forward-looking law firms, focused on delivering the right resources to best serve our clients across all relevant markets.”
Nick joins from Baker McKenzie, where he served as the Chair of the Transactional Practice Group in New York. He has substantial experience advising PE funds, family offices, strategic clients, and international conglomerates across the United States, Asia Pacific, and Europe in connection with significant private M&A, joint venture and other transactions. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and his Juris Doctor from Fordham University Law School, where he was also a member of Law Review.
