Marc Döring joins Allen & Overy’s international IP group

05 August 2016

The second high-profile appointment for the A&O IP team in as many months

Today Allen & Overy announces the appointment of Marc Döring as partner to its international IP practice, based in London. Marc joins A&O from Simmons & Simmons where he was a partner and head of the IP group. The news follows the appointment of Marjan Noor, also from Simmons & Simmons, who joins on 1 November 2016.

Marc’s experience working with clients in the pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical devices and hi-tech industries - the sectors where the next generation of patent battles will be fought – will add significant strength to the existing high-quality team.

Tim House, partner and global head of Litigation, comments: “We are pleased to announce that Marc will be joining our world-class team. Our IP offering is unique among the big international firms with top tier IP partners in key European jurisdictions and, with this move, an unrivalled galaxy of stars in the UK.

“Unlike others in our peer-group, we have consistently prioritised IP as a strategic growth area for the litigation practice and Marc adds an additional dimension to our already strong offering.”

Marc will be joining the team at a key time for the IP industry. The uncertainty created by Brexit will add to the complexity of patent litigation through the multiplicity of parallel proceedings, including in the UK as a key jurisdiction.

Nicola Dagg, partner in Allen & Overy’s international IP practice, comments: “The UK courts are highly regarded on the global stage and we don’t expect this to change. As such they have always attracted high profile cases, and big ticket UK patent litigation is no exception. The uncertainty around the UPC will create additional complexity at all stages of the patent life cycle and we expect this will lead to more high-end patent litigation coming to the UK courts.

“Marc is a renowned and formidable IP litigator who brings the skills and experience that will complement our existing team and help us to exploit new opportunities down the line.”

Marc and Marjan will join Nicola Dagg, Neville Cordell, Jim Ford, Mark Ridgway and Nigel Parker in A&O’s IP team in London, a key part of the firm's 15-strong global IP partner group.
