Allen & Overy Corporate partners Jane Finlayson-Brown and Katinka Middelkoop have been awarded prizes for ‘Best in Privacy and Data Protection’ and ‘Best in M&A’ respectively at the 2020 European Women in Business Law Awards. The awards honour women in the forefront of legal work in business law across Europe, rewarding individuals who stand out as leaders amongst their peers and who have been instrumental to innovative approaches in their field.

Based in A&O’s London office, Jane has built a market-leading practice, advising some of the world’s largest companies and financial institutions on a wide range of emerging legal issues relating to new and complex technologies, and has extensive experience assisting clients with data protection and compliance projects.  Winning this award, she has been recognised as a leading figure in the data protection sphere, one that has seen increasing relevance and importance in recent years with the development of new technologies and the advent of GDPR.

Katinka, who is based in Amsterdam, has been recognised for her work on some of the most noteworthy transactions of the last year and is widely acknowledged as an expert on a wide range of corporate transactions.  Qualified both in the U.S. and the Netherlands she is a key advisor to international corporates and financial institutions on cross-border transactions, involving Europe, Asia and the US.  In the last year standout deals include advising Chinese insurer Anbang on the EUR2.6 billion sale of Vivat to Athora and the subsequent sale by Athora of Vivat’s non-life activities as well as an asset management business to NN Group.

Commenting on these award wins, co-head of global Corporate at A&O, David Broadley, said: “It’s fantastic for our experts to be honoured by these awards and I’d like to congratulate Jane and Katinka on their respective wins. At A&O we are very proud of the outstanding female talent we have across the firm and remain committed to continue to make progress on gender diversity and inclusion. These awards, and the high number of award nominations and wins we see at A&O throughout the year, are great profile of that talent.”
