Allen & Overy has recently announced the promotion of 20 lawyers to partner across its global network, effective 1 May 2018.

The partner promotions include four lawyers in the firm’s International Arbitration practice: Sheila Ahuja (Singapore), Yacine Francis (Dubai), James Freeman (London) and David Jenaway (Perth).

The geographic spread of the new partners – across Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific - reflects the firm’s strategy to invest and grow the arbitration group throughout all the regions it operates in. In the coming months Sheila, currently based in Hong Kong, will relocate to the firm’s Singapore office, where she will continue to develop an already very strong team, whilst continuing to work very closely with the Hong Kong and Australia teams to provide clients with a seamless offering across Asia Pacific. David’s promotion to the Perth partnership reflects the phenomenal success of the team in that office since its establishment in 2013 and its integral role in the global arbitration practice. Yacine’s promotion continues our investment in the Middle East, where the practice has grown significantly in recent years and is recognised as one of the leading arbitration practices the region. James’ promotion in London strengthens our position in this highly-competitive market and boosts our capabilities in energy and finance disputes.

In addition, Frankfurt-based arbitration specialist Mia Ramb is promoted to Counsel. Mia has particular expertise in energy-related disputes, including disputes concerning the construction, maintenance or dismantling of power plants.

Global practice co-head Mark Levy commented "These well-deserved promotions reflect a growing practice that continues to compete at the very highest levels of the international disputes market. Following hot on the heels of our acquisition of a disputes team in our Johannesburg office, the new appointments are a further demonstration of our commitment to offer clients a global disputes capability."
