Pride parades all over the world have been cancelled this year due to the impact of covid-19. However, LGBT+ Pride at Allen & Overy is very much going ahead this June, albeit virtually, and is as important now as ever.
More than 180 people across our global network have sent in their photos to celebrate their LGBT+ colleagues to be made into a collage during Pride month. The collage is a powerful reminder to all LGBT+ people and allies who work at A&O that they matter and we are stronger together. Members of A&Out from across A&O’s network, including in New York, London, Hong Kong and Sydney have got involved in the collage.
The firm has used this opportunity to reaffirm its support for racial equality in light of recent events in the US and has used the updated Pride flag. This includes black and brown stripes representing LGBT+ friends who are black, Asian or from another ethnic minority background. It is particularly important during Pride to acknowledge people of colour as the modern LGBT+ movement in the US was sparked by protests from black and latinx trans women and these women are still some of the most oppressed in the LGBT+ community.
