A&O women shine at Euromoney Women in Business Law awards
15 June 2018
Allen & Overy has taken home six awards at this year’s Euromoney LMG Europe Women in Business Law Awards: Lorraine Bayliss (Best in energy, natural resources & mining), Laetitia Benard (Best in life sciences), Angela Clist (Best in structured finance), Kate Sumpter (Rising Star: Finance), Best International Firm for Work-Life Balance, and Outstanding Practitioner of the Year – Karen Seward.
The individual awards recognise the best female lawyers in each practice area, who have become influential leaders in their field, while the firm-wide prizes celebrate those setting the standard in terms of female-friendly work practices.
Karen Seward, A&O’s global head of litigation, has been awarded Outstanding Practitioner of the Year 2018 – the most prestigious award of the night. This category celebrates women who have been consistently recognised as leaders in their field over a significant period of time and who have taken on senior management roles but continue to practice in their chosen field. The winner of the Outstanding Practitioner award is chosen by peers and experts in the market.
Karen Seward comments: “I’m honoured to have been chosen by my peers for this year’s Outstanding Practitioner award. Taking on the role of Global Head of Litigation at A&O has allowed me to bring new ideas to the table, it’s a platform to advance our diversity and inclusion aspirations in every way. Improved diversity is a game changer, for the industry, for our clients and for society as a whole.
“It’s amazing to celebrate all the female talent at this year’s awards – inspirational women but also incredible lawyers. I’d like to congratulate all the winners and I’d also like to urge everyone to continue to challenge the status quo, diversity brings disruption and disruption will keep us at the cutting edge.”
