A&O named “Law Firm of the Year” at Risk Awards

Allen & Overy has been named “Law Firm of the Year” at the Risk.net Awards. A&O was specifically recognised by Risk.net for the innovative use of blockchain technology in issuing bonds.

The firm was congratulated for their efforts in the past year where they took the lead on facilitating a landmark bond issuance on a public blockchain and for taking a leading role in rewriting laws in two European states.

There was also praise for the firm on their market leading efforts on laying the legal groundwork for the European Investment Bank’s first issuance of a EUR100m bond on public blockchain network Ethereum.

Allen & Overy’s derivatives and structured finance group have been the leading lawyers for tackling Brexit divergence, being thought leaders in sustainability and ESG and working with an international team to develop crypto derivatives and trading platforms.

The group has been at the forefront of IBOR transition work and, through their Markets Innovation Group, has created an award winning tech-led solution for clients. Additionally, A&O has been supporting the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) on some of their ESG initiatives, including writing a paper for them on sustainability linked derivatives.

Emma Dwyer, partner and global head of the derivatives and structured finance group, said: “This award is testament to the incredible talent we have in our team. Over the last year we have focussed our efforts on tackling the emerging issues in the derivatives markets while maintaining our leading position for derivatives regulatory issues.

“Our forward thinking approach has allowed us to help our clients with some of their toughest challenges with innovative solutions, and we look forward to continuing our work with them”
