The list, which is in its tenth year, recognises UK employers who are leading the way on workplace gender equality and that make gender equality part of their business strategy at all levels.
A&O senior partner Wim Dejonghe comments: “Gender diversity is a key strategic focus of ours and has been for some years. For us to maintain our success by being included in this list for a second year is fantastic recognition of our efforts. Our ultimate diversity and inclusion goal is for A&O to be an environment where everyone can thrive and we will continue our work in this area with determination.”
Diversity has been a strategic priority for A&O since 2016 and in 2018 it announced a refreshed gender strategy. That strategy has seen a tangible impact on gender diversity at the firm. In 2020 45% of the firm’s new partner promotions were female, a significant increase from 24% in 2019.
Business in the Community’s Gender Equality Campaign Director, Charlotte Woodworth, adds: “Business in the Community’s Times Top 50 Employers for Women list is the longest running and most widely respected award for employers committed to achieving equality for women at work. This year marks ten years of the awards, and the bar was especially high. A decade of expertise and experience underpins Business In the Community’s assessment, which sees organisations reviewed across a wide range of areas including transparency around pay practices, family friendly policies and to what extent the gender equality agenda is embedded into wider strategy.”
