A&O licences drafting and review technology, Define
01 July 2020
Allen & Overy has licenced the drafting and review technology created by Fuse cohort member, Define. The technology, originally conceived and developed by a founding team comprised of lawyers, provides a more efficient process of accessing defined terms and references in legal documents.
Having joined Fuse in May 2019, as part of cohort 3, Define is designed as an easy to use plugin to Microsoft Word. It enables A&O lawyers to more easily review long legal documents, populated with multiple defined terms and references.
One user of Define is visually impaired associate, Ghazi AbuYounis. While working on long documents, Ghazi has used Define to help him and believes that the use of technology has aided him significantly in his job. “The split-screen functionality within Define increases my field of view and allows me to amend various parts of the document without scrolling to find cross-references or defined terms. Technology really helps people with disabilities and we must make sure we find it. If we can’t find it we must create it” comments Ghazi.
Shruti Ajitsaria, Partner and Head of Fuse, said: "Fuse acts as a radar to find technologies which A&O lawyers would benefit from and Define is a great example of this. Their technology is particularly useful now, when we find ourselves working remotely. Being able to navigate a document quickly using Define should enable us to review documents in a way which is ultimately more accurate and efficient for our clients."
Rhys Hodkinson, Head of Growth at Define, added: "We are delighted to welcome A&O as a customer and to continue our relationship with the firm. Not only is this a testament to A&O’s innovative culture as a law firm but also their commitment to advancing delivery to their clients in a more efficient manner using tools such as Define."
