An Allen & Overy team has advised Japanese brewery company Asahi on its acquisition of Carlton & United Breweries, the Australian arm of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's largest brewer, for USD11.3 billion. The deal marks Asahi's biggest overseas acquisition.
The A&O team comprised London and Sydney-based Corporate M&A partners Richard Hough, Aaron Kenavan and Matthew Appleton, with partner Jim Ford leading on Commercial advice and partner Peter McDonald leading on Antitrust advice.
A&O has worked with Asahi previously, including advising on its acquisitions of SAB Miller's former operations in Western Europe and in Central and Eastern Europe in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Matthew Appleton comments: "Asahi has undergone rapid strategic growth in recent years and we have been proud to be involved in these transactions which further their presence in the global market."
Aaron Kenavan adds: "This deal demonstrates our experience in the sector, having advised SAB Miller on its acquisition of Carlton & United Breweries in 2011. It's a pleasure to be involved in a further development for this business and one that will no doubt go on to be a strategic and commercial success for it and its new owners Asahi."
