Allen & Overy Strengthens Bank Regulatory Team with Senior Counsel Hire

Allen & Overy has added to its financial services regulatory practice with the hire of Lena Kiely as Senior Counsel to cover Bank Regulation in the firm’s New York office.

Kiely brings a deep knowledge of U.S. bank regulation, with almost two decades of experience advising domestic and foreign banks and other financial institutions on complex regulatory, supervisory, compliance and governance related issues.

Prior to joining Allen & Overy, Kiely led the bank regulatory team in the Legal Department at BNY Mellon, where she provided strategic and regulatory advice to the bank’s senior management and risk, compliance and other corporate functions across all lines of business. Before her tenure at BNY Mellon, Kiely spent a decade at Davis Polk & Wardwell, advising domestic and foreign banks and other financial institutions on a broad range of U.S. bank regulatory matters in connection with M&A and capital markets transactions, Dodd-Frank Act implementation, living wills, permissible activities and investments, affiliate transactions, control issues, new charter and other regulatory applications, and supervisory, compliance and governance matters.

Barbara Stettner, Head of Allen & Overy’s U.S. Financial Services Regulatory Practice and member of the Global Financial Services Regulatory Steering Committee, said: “Lena brings a unique perspective and highly skilled approach to bank regulatory issues after working in-house at one of the world’s largest financial institutions. As a truly global law firm, we look forward to bolstering Allen & Overy’s domestic and foreign expertise on the U.S. bank regulatory team with the addition of Lena.”

“I’ve watched Allen & Overy’s talented team of lawyers in the financial services regulatory practice tackle some of today’s most complex and interesting cross-border engagements, and I look forward to taking on new challenges as part of this team,” said Kiely.

Kiely’s arrival further strengthens the Financial Services Regulatory practice, following the expansion of the team in 2019 with the addition of Senior Counsels Hilary Sunghee Seo and C. Wallace Dewitt. With their combined decades of experience, the team continues to enhance the firm’s already strong reputation in this sector.
