Allen & Overy named 'Most innovative law firm in Europe' for record fourth time

09 October 2014

Of the 50 firms that appear in the rankings, Allen & Overy is the only one to have topped the list four times and to appear in the top three every year since it began.

Allen & Overy also had the largest number of commended entries across all firms. The results were announced at a ceremony in London’s iconic Natural History Museum and are published in the FT's Innovative Lawyers Report 2014.

Jonathan Brayne, Head A&O’s Innovation Panel, who collected the most innovative law firm award, said after the ceremony: "We had a fantastic result across so many product areas and offices. By winning the main award, we have (once again!) shown it is part of our culture to find new solutions and opportunities for ourselves and our clients. We are very proud that the FT has recognised our efforts to bring innovation, creativity and advanced thinking to the legal sector and to our clients’ business."

Of Allen & Overy's entries to this year’s report, two achieved stand-out status, six were highly commended and three commended. Alongside our top win we were the highest ranked for innovation in legal expertise. In addition, our combined overall score exceeded that of the other firms by some considerable margin.

Now in its seventh year of publication, the FT Innovative Lawyers Report has become one of the top legal rankings in Europe, and the accompanying awards are widely regarded as the best researched in the market. It is a joint venture between the FT and specialist legal research company RSG Consulting.

The report presents a unique analysis of the legal industry and is the only ranking of lawyers by innovation.

RSG Consulting managing director Reena SenGupta writes in the report: "Allen & Overy holds the number one slot in the overall rankings because of their ability to empower individuals and think, not like a law firm, but like innovators and game changers. Being able to do this in the legal market is not easy, but their efforts to embed innovation to their strategy and culture are certainly paying off."

Allen & Overy also came first in the rankings in 2012, 2011 and 2007, second in 2008, 2013 and third in 2009 and 2010.
