Allen & Overy continues growth of U.S. Restructuring practice with partner Robin Spigel

A&O today announced that Robin Spigel has joined as a partner in the firm’s U.S. Banking and Restructuring practice. Robin joins A&O’s New York office from Baker Botts where she served as a partner.

Robin brings more than 20 years of bankruptcy and restructuring experience, including representing companies through chapter 11 filings and out-of-court restructurings. Robin also possesses a seasoned track record representing acquirers, creditors, landlords and a diversity of other professionals in distressed company transactions. Robin’s practice has extended across a variety of industries, including oil & gas, power, pharmaceuticals, media, manufacturing and more.

Recently, Robin led the successful chapter 11 restructuring of one of the first retail electricity providers in Texas to file for bankruptcy following the devastating winter storm that occurred in Texas in February 2021.

“Over the past year, A&O has successfully expanded its expertise in the U.S. in private equity and leveraged loan origination capabilities, and the addition of Robin’s seasoned restructuring background complements this growth strategy to provide full-service offerings to our clients. This is especially important in today’s macroeconomic environment where the amount of outstanding corporate debt has skyrocketed and market observers expect financial dislocation and defaults to become more prominent,” said Tim House, U.S. senior partner.

A&O’s restructuring practice was recently named among the 2021 “New York Elite” restructuring practices by Chambers. In September 2021, A&O added partner Manny Grillo to the practice, who also joined from Baker Botts.

Robin commented, “I am thrilled to join A&O’s distinguished restructuring practice, which is uniquely positioned to grow in today’s environment given the broader, top-tier A&O corporate practices. A&O’s continued expansion of its global footprint, client base, and offerings is a testament to the firm’s client services and I am excited to leverage my experience to further accelerate that growth.”

Robin joins A&O as the 33rd lateral hire in the last two years.

Prior to joining Baker Botts in 2019, Robin spent 17 years at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in New York as both an associate and counsel. She received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and was admitted to practice in the State of New York in 1998.
