Allen & Overy Amsterdam has appointed Nicole Wolters Ruckert (39) as counsel from 1 September 2019. She will lead the data protection team that offers local and international organizations comprehensive legal support in the field of privacy and data protection, ranging from data protection compliance, assisting the enforcement processes conducted by the Dutch Data Protection Authority to advising on new data-driven business models.

With the arrival of Nicole, Allen & Overy Amsterdam is making an important strategic investment in its services to clients who are dealing with privacy and data protection issues.

Before joining Allen & Overy, Nicole was at Kennedy Van der Laan as an Associate Partner. Here she developed into an authority in the field of privacy and data protection, and built up a broad practice in the field. She started her career in 2004, after graduating cum laude from two Masters of Law at both the University of Amsterdam and the University of Antwerp. In addition, Nicole completed an LLM at Nyenrode Business University cum laude and completed the Computer Science specialization course at the Grotius Academy.

Brechje van der Velden, Senior Partner at Allen & Overy Amsterdam comments: “We are very happy that Nicole is joining our office. She is widely respected as an excellent privacy and data protection lawyer, with strong legal and technical knowledge. She has an impressive track record in the field of privacy and data protection, topics that are high on the strategic agenda of our clients. The stricter regulations and enforcement make these increasingly complex areas for organizations."

Allen & Overy’s Privacy and Data team offers extensive legal support in the field, both independently and in close collaboration with other practice groups. It guides organizations through a data breach, helps with the development and implementation of (global) data compliance programs, and advises organizations on topics such as cyber security, data in the cloud, or the rollout of new technologies. The team also assists companies in enforcement processes of the Dutch Data Protection Authority and civil disputes in the area of privacy, conducts privacy analyzes in the context of a due diligence, and advises on HR-related privacy issues.
