What attracted you to Allen & Overy?
Working as a finance lawyer at the market-leading finance firm gives you exposure to a quality of work that is unrivalled among our competitors. The great culture is a bonus.
Describe Allen & Overy in 3 words.
Agile, polished, courageous.
What is the most exciting deal / case you have worked on and why?
I led on the financing documentation for Dubai World’s debt optimisation. It is an investment company that manages and supervises a portfolio of businesses and projects for the Government of Dubai. It is the emirate's flag bearer in global investments and has a central role in the direction of Dubai's economy.
What is the toughest aspect of your job?
Clients come to us for their most challenging and unique deals, which gives us the opportunity to do a wide range of interesting, yet demanding, work. It doesn’t make the job easy (in fact, quite to the contrary), but that is the nature of the gig.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time, outside the office?
I like to travel as often as I can and I am particularly partial to a weekend at the Formula 1 or a skiing holiday. I also enjoy good food and wine and try to balance that out with running, football and hitting the gym when I can.
What was your first ever job?
Literally, flipping burgers.
If you could spend some time in any of Allen & Overy’s international offices, where would you most like to go and why?
Ho Chi Minh City. The weather’s good, the city buzzes and the food is incredible.
Who has had the biggest influence on your career?
My brother, Paul.
If you could time travel, which era would you visit and why?
I would have to say the late Roman Republic. I hold a bachelor of arts with a major in archaeology and ancient history (so possibly slightly less useful than my law degree) and the Late Republic is a period that I have always been fascinated by.
Who is your favourite childhood superhero and why?
Danger Mouse! Being a child growing up in the early 1990s, honourable mention also goes to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. No justification necessary.
