Tamara Steuer

I joined A&O Consulting (AOC) in September 2020 after finishing my degree at the London School of Economics. I was aware of A&O’s strong and well-established reputation in providing top-quality legal services, so I was intrigued to understand more about the other areas of the firm. AOC presented a unique chance to join a fast-growing start-up and being part of the team’s first intake of graduates provided a real opportunity to shape the team and offer a new perspective.

Despite joining in the midst of a global pandemic in unprecedented political and economic times, I have still had the chance to work on a range of different projects for a variety of clients. This has included research into governance models for a large non-profit, culture and diversity training for a global corporate and supporting on policy reviewing for a payment firm’s FCA application. In addition, I have had the opportunity to spend 10 months on full-time secondment in the Markets Risk and Control team of a global Tier 1 investment bank. Through this I had the opportunity to gain industry experience and represent AOC in a new environment.

The team has grown rapidly throughout my past 2 years at AOC. Not only have there been two intakes of new graduates, but also multiple new recruits from a range of different professional backgrounds at all experience levels, bringing diversity and new skill-sets into the team. In addition, our range of clients has also significantly evolved. We have clients in new regions such as the Middle East and the US and across a broad range of different industries.

The best thing about being part of AOC is the open and forward thinking mind-set. Everyone in the team is excited to embrace new ideas and styles of working. My advice to anyone joining AOC would be to really be agile and adaptable. Being part of a start-up consultancy means the pace is very fast-moving, with new ventures and opportunities arising all the time. Being able to embrace that change is what really drives success as a graduate.
