I first joined Allen & Overy in 2004 on a three week vacation scheme in the London office between the second and third years of reading Jurisprudence at the University of Oxford. As an introduction to the firm, its clients, the work and the people it was exciting and varied. I completed my degree and following law school and a few months travelling around the world I joined Allen & Overy London as a trainee solicitor in March 2007. Having delayed the start of my legal career I was comforted to meet other new joiners who had also spent time in different fields. The diversity of the talents outside of the law of those I work with is truly impressive whether it's in other industries, languages, music, art or sport.

As a trainee I rotated through the Banking, Corporate and Litigation departments and completed a six month secondment to the Bangkok office before joining the private equity group within the Corporate department in the London office. After 18 months a great opportunity arose to return to Bangkok and once again work with those I had got to know while on secondment. The transactions have always been varied and challenging. However, combined with an inclusive atmosphere and collaborative spirit the excellence of the people makes for an environment in which there are constant opportunities to teach, learn, improve and apply your skills to new situations (both on transactions and as part of the pro-bono projects or social activities). As part of the Bangkok Corporate department I have worked with Thai and International clients with teams from the Bangkok office and across the Allen & Overy network from Hong Kong and Singapore to Tokyo, New York and Perth. Although working across different time zones and cultures, the attitude has always been the same – each person bringing their expertise to the team and working together. This even applies outside the office whether organising collections for an orphanage, designing the flag for our sports teams at an away weekend or when a group of us went diving off Koh Tao for the weekend!
