Corporate
As part of our global Corporate, M&A and ECM practice, you will advise leading international and local corporations, financial institutions and government bodies on all aspects of corporate and commercial law. You can expect to tackle everything from mergers and acquisitions, public takeovers and international equity offerings to joint ventures, corporate restructurings and day-to-day regulatory matters. Working closely with the PRC team, our lawyers combine excellent transactional skills with specialist expertise in areas such as antitrust, tax, employment and anti-corruption.
Dispute Resolution
Our Hong Kong Dispute Resolution practices advises clients from a broad range of sectors on all forms of dispute resolution, but is broadly divided into two sub-groups, one focusing on commercial litigation and regulatory investigations and the other focusing on international arbitration. Both teams are leaders in their fields.
Our Litigation team has a particular focus on the banking and financial services industry and advises all of the major international and domestic financial institutions in Hong Kong on a wide range of high profile, complex litigation often requiring sophisticated strategic planning and a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses.
Our international arbitration team is one of the leading practices in the world and has an established track record of achieving successful outcomes for our clients in high-value, complex disputes. Our team advises on commercial arbitrations as well as on investment treaty arbitrations involving claims against states. Our Hong Kong and Singapore arbitration teams work as a single practice, advising businesses and governments on high-value arbitrations claims throughout Asia and across the world.
International Capital Markets
With over 450 lawyers based all over the world, our ICM Team is one of the largest in the global legal industry. We enjoy a top-tier position across the full range of capital markets products, and we’ve played a big part in almost every major development in our field. Rapidly changing economic, political and regulatory conditions have made the last few years challenging, and we’ve helped clients address the fallout from several sovereign debt crises. As our focus shifts towards big-picture, long-term projects, we increasingly work with colleagues from other practice areas to develop innovative solutions that incorporate complex financing techniques.
Regulatory
Our Hong Kong Regulatory Group has extensive experience of advising Hong Kong based domestic and international clients on regulatory matters, with a particular focus on financial institutions. Our experience spans a broad range of issues, including advising on obtaining appropriate licenses from the SFC and HKMA, change of control and regulatory approval requirements, data protection and privacy, anti-money laundering, corporate governance, conduct requirements and market misconduct. We also frequently assist clients on establishing public or private fund structures, provide regulatory support for insurance M&As and advise on fintech matters, including initial coin offerings, mobile and online payments and e-wallet solutions and other stored value facilities.
The strong relationships we have developed with the Hong Kong regulators including the Securities Futures Commission (SFC) and Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), is a key selling point in helping clients manage regulatory and reputation risk. Through our experience working with the regulators in Hong Kong, we have developed a sound knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment ensuring we are always at the forefront of any changes.
