Community investment
With unrivalled depth of expertise and a presence in over thirty countries, we’re in a position to effect positive change on pressing issues all over the world. Our pro bono and community investment work is focussed on two major themes – access to justice and access to education and employment – and adapted to the needs and priorities of local cultures. We also bring together the skills and resources of the entire firm to make a significant impact on the work of one organisation through our Global Charity Partnership.
Last year 54% of our lawyers took part in pro bono work to a value of GBP 21.2m – but we try and use the skills of all of our people to their greatest effect, whichever part of the firm they’re from and whatever their area of expertise. You could find yourself working for global human rights organisations such as the UNHCR, Fair Trials International and the Equal Rights Trust. The opportunities to progress, both personally and professionally, are endless.
Diversity and inclusion
At A&O we recognise that people are different, in ways that we can see and ways that we can’t. We think that is a good thing. As well as creating a rich working environment that makes our work more enjoyable, the business benefits are clear. Being diverse and ensuring that we are inclusive helps us to attract the best people, innovate and understand and relate to our clients.
Our goal is simple, we want A&O to be a place where a diverse group of people can be themselves and bring the best of themselves to their careers.
Achieving this is a little more complex. Understanding the benefits of diversity is not enough to make the difference. Our guiding principles ensure we challenge ourselves to make our culture more inclusive, both locally and globally, and allow us to be open and honest in influencing the bigger picture, both in and out of A&O.
“We continue to be committed to supporting diversity in the broadest sense and continuing to ensure we have an inclusive environment for everyone.”
