Legal Professional

In September 2017, just a few months after graduating from university, I secured a place at Allen & Overy's LSC. I was intrigued by the firm’s global presence and attracted by the opportunity to work in a variety of legal practice areas, which I hoped would allow me to pursue a well-rounded legal career.

I moved from England to Belfast for the position of Legal Professional and although I did not know what to expect from the outset, A&O was extremely helpful. The LSC's HR department provided me with a lot of information about the area, which helped me to find accommodation and travel routes to and from work. The support I received from the get-go, and still to this day, has shown me the dedication the firm has to its employees.

Since joining the LSC, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in many different areas of law, including litigation, commercial transactions and banking. Each project provided me with the opportunity to undertake many different roles while working in a team environment. On occasion, I have put my Law and French Law and Language degree to use by working on foreign-language documents across a number of projects; this is just one of many instances where A&O has demonstrated their dedication to developing my skills.

In the LSC, opportunities arise for LPs to go on secondment (including to clients’ offices), which enable us to experience the wider network of the firm. I was delighted when I was seconded to London to assist clients on a real estate project. This introduced me to an area of law that I had yet to experience and led me to gain an insight into the impact that LSC work has on transactions and deals.

The LSC not only provides a great working environment, but gives its employees the possibility to participate in activities outside of work, such as tag rugby. I joined the LSC tag ruby team during the 2017 summer league; this was a great way to meet new people and learn a new skill.
