I joined Allen & Overy’s In-House Legal in May 2019, with one years’ PQE as a solicitor and a background in corporate/commercial work. What attracted me to Allen & Overy was the opportunity to work in an exciting, growing team based in Belfast that assisted on global matters for the firm.

Since joining In-House Legal I have had the opportunity to work on risk and regulation projects, corporate secretariat work and commercial contracts. I now primarily focus in the risk and regulatory part of the team.

I have been involved in drafting amendments to the firm’s suite of global risk management policies, keeping up to date with any legislative amendments that need to be considered on behalf of the firm. I have also advised in relation to wide regulatory projects for example Brexit, and been involved in any updates local regulatory bodies have made that affect Allen & Overy. Every day is different, and as a result every day you learn something new.

There is a very supportive environment in In-House Legal and efforts are made to encourage all members of the team to gain experience in areas in which they are interested. I have developed a lot both personally and professionally from when I joined the team. In addition, I have made some really great friends in the team.

For me, the move to A&O’s In-House Legal team came at the perfect time in my career. It has allowed me to be exposed to extremely interesting and challenging work with a healthy work-life balance.
