Advanced Delivery - Legal, Perth

An alternative approach for legal minds

Are you ready to put your law degree to work at the centre of a high-growth area of legal practice? Would you like to work in not just one but all of these practice areas — international capital markets (ICM), corporate, litigation, arbitration, banking and intellectual property?

A&O’s clients demand benchmark-setting expertise at ever-increasing levels of efficiency. That efficiency is essential when a matter might involve millions of documents. Advising effectively on matters of that magnitude is possible only because A&O’s legal expertise is amplified by the techniques pioneered in our Advanced Delivery Legal (ADL) offices.

If you’re chosen to work in ADL as a legal support professional, it will be your legal expertise that A&O’s clients count on to evolve, perfect and apply those advanced techniques.

Changing the way law is practised

What’s it like working in ADL?

Our advanced delivery teams work in open-plan offices, forming groups to work on a matter. That matter might have a team of up to 20 legal support professionals led by a senior associate. As a team, they’ll share insights and perspectives on how to apply the relevant law with maximum efficiency.

Seeking adaptable candidates with a collegial approach

At ADL, you could go months without working on two matters in the same jurisdiction or area of law. So we’re looking for adaptable candidates with law degrees who can fit into a collaborative environment. Because teamwork is essential to what we’re building, it made sense to ask the team who they’re looking to work with.

Our legal support professionals told us their ideal colleague is:

  • Excited about working with artificial intelligence and other technologies to amplify their legal expertise
  • Willing to go hands-on
  • Open to asking questions
  • Interested in using their legal expertise over a wide range of matters across dozens of jurisdictions
  • Capable of communicating their thoughts to someone else working on the matter, whether that colleague is sitting next to them or working in London, New York or any of our offices in 31 countries

Is Advanced Delivery Legal right for you?

As a legal support professional in ADL, you’ll be applying your legal expertise to a wide variety of matters from many jurisdictions – a merger in New York one day and questions of legal privilege in Luxembourg the next.

You might develop deep expertise in an area, but you’re more likely to be learning new things constantly.

If you’re interested in working in a collegial environment where you’ll have a chance to apply your legal expertise to a kaleidoscope of matters from around the world, we offer:

1. Exceptional training, including:

  • Comprehensive training that complements your law degree by covering legal process and supervisory skills

  • A six-week programme with a professor brought to Perth from the UK’s University of Law

  • The possibility of attending internal legal training courses such as the firm’s universities of banking, corporate, litigation and ICM

  • On-the-job training in various areas of law, including employment, banking, and mergers and acquisitions

2. Mentorship towards your professional and personal goals, including mastering the soft skills essential for every legal practitioner

3. Secondment opportunities not only to improve your knowledge of areas of law and A&O offices, but to be an ambassador for the capabilities of ADL

4. Genuine work/life balance–  most days, you’ll start at 9am and finish at 6pm

Corporate social responsibility

A&O offers many opportunities to get involved in pro bono work and corporate social responsibility activities.

One of our LSPs won a firm-wide competition to film a visit to Tanzania as part of our global charity partnership, through our Corporate Responsibility Committee. He accompanied partners, project managers and trainees, to get a sense of how the health and education‑focused projects were progressing 18 months into our partnership.

Last year, two of our LSPs joined A&O colleagues from across the network to trek in Amman, Jordan in the support of War Child. They walked over 70 km across mountainous landscape and deserts to raise money for Syrian children and their parents in the refugee camp in Jordan.
