Celebrating women
Author
05 March 2019
As a man surrounded by phenomenal women I feel very fortunate. Whichever way I look, I see powerhouses of talent: from my wife Amy, to my PA Ellie, to my bosses Sarah and Karen and my female clients, who are too numerous to mention. As International Women’s Day 2019 approaches, I want to celebrate the many women out there who are role models to me and to others.
I have never really subscribed to the “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” school of thought, not least because I don’t have a cave, but it cannot be denied that women do bring something different to the table. I’ve never seen it as a "them and us issue": for me it is about the mix. As an employment lawyer I have always worked in an environment made up of both men and women (and amongst those men and women there has always been further diversity in terms of age, race, sexual orientation, background etc) and I relish being challenged by these individuals in my workplace. Their perspective brings another dimension to problem solving, banter and life in general. We test each other and learn from each other, and the more diverse the group, the better.
There’s a reason why diversity works. Happy International Women's Day.
