The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) published the TechSonar Report 2022-2023, produced with a view to anticipating risks and damage to the digital world and therefore helping to effectively enforce fundamental rights to privacy and data protection (on 10 November 2022). 

The second TechSonar report highlights the technologies considered to be of importance in the field of personal data protection. The update has been supported by a proof-of-concept analysis tool that assists information collection and analysis of academic papers, patents and projects funded by the EU in relation to the selected technologies.

Key technologies highlighted by the report include:

  • fake news detection systems;
  • Metaverse;
  • synthetic data;
  • federated learning; and
  • central bank digital currency.
