Arbitration partner Christopher Mainwaring-Taylor relocates to our Singapore office

Allen & Overy further strengthens its market-leading Asia Pacific Arbitration practice with the relocation of Christopher Mainwaring-Taylor (Chris), a long-standing A&O Arbitration partner, from Paris to its Singapore office. Chris will be based in Singapore but will advise on arbitration matters across the region and globally.

Chris, who has been with A&O for over 20 years, brings with him extensive experience of acting as counsel and advocate in international arbitration proceedings under a variety of governing laws and rules, including those of the ICC, LCIA, ICSID, DIAC and UNCITRAL.

Chris has particular expertise in disputes arising out of major projects across a range of sectors, including energy and natural resources, power and infrastructure. His experience also includes upstream energy and investment treaty disputes, as well as disputes arising under joint venture, shareholder and concession agreements.

Mark van Brakel, partner and head of the Asia Pacific Litigation practice, commented: “Chris’ relocation to Asia is part of our on-going investment in our regional Arbitration practice, following recent partner and counsel promotions. Chris’ skilled areas of expertise in acting on construction, infrastructure and energy disputes complement the team’s capabilities across a broad range of sectors.”

Mark adds: “Chris’ relocation comes at a time when we are seeing an uptick in disputes arising from infrastructure and construction projects in the region, particularly in ASEAN. Chris will also work closely with our market-leading Projects practice to advise clients on strategy to mitigate and manage risk during the construction phase of a project.”

Prior to working in A&O’s Paris office, Chris led our International Arbitration team in the Middle East and was responsible for establishing the practice there. He brings a wealth of international experience, having worked in three of the world’s major arbitral hubs: London, Paris and Dubai.

Chris’ relocation forms part of the broader expansion of our Asia Pacific International Arbitration team, with recent new hires in all of our teams. Our teams of dedicated international arbitration specialists in Hong Kong SAR, Beijing, Singapore and Perth operate as a single practice and advise on international arbitrations across the full span of the Asia Pacific region. Within the past 12 months, the team has advised on matters concerning, in APAC alone, Australia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, mainland China and Vietnam.
