"With Dorothee Atwell we have been able to attract an extremely skilled and very successful partner who will enable us to further develop our asset management practice in Germany at the highest level," commented Dr Wolf Bussian, Managing Partner at Allen & Overy Germany. "She will also add comprehensive ESG fund structuring competence to our funds practice. This makes her an ideal match for our growth strategy. We are very much looking forward to working with Dorothee Atwell."
Martin Scharnke, head of the German International Capital Markets practice group, added: "We are confident that Dorothee Atwell will be an excellent fit for our global platform and that she will actively contribute to further developing this global practice from Germany. She has the great advantage that, in addition to working in private practice, she also has several years of top level experience working as in-house counsel for a leading German capital management company and thus has in-depth knowledge of clients' needs. We warmly welcome Dorothee Atwell to our team."
Dorothee Atwell explains her move as follows: "Over the past few years, we have seen two major trends in asset management: a constant increase in funds under management and at the same time a substantial rise in the scope and complexity of regulation. In view of this, Allen & Overy's global platform with its market-leading international funds practice makes the firm particularly attractive for me – due to the seamless services it is able to deliver to clients in cross border projects and its one-stop offering for structuring, regulation and taxation of funds. I see great potential for further developing advisory services for capital management companies and asset managers in Germany and I am very much looking forward to my new role and to joining the A&O team."
Allen & Overy’s global Funds & Asset Management group provides a full-service offering to fund managers and institutional investors across the U.S., UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Matt Huggett, Global Head of Allen & Overy’s Funds & Asset Management group, commented: “We continue to invest in growing our global Funds & Asset Management practice, having made recent hires in Shanghai and Los Angeles over the past six months. Dorothee’s addition will further enable us to respond to the increasing demand from our clients across the private capital space.”
Dorothee Atwell has a wealth of experience in fund structuring and documentation, in regulation of asset managers and institutional investors as well as in fund due diligence. She also specialises in structuring funds against the background of sustainability aspects. Before joining Pinsent Masons, she worked for seven years at the leading European fund service platform Universal Investment, in her last position as head of legal for Alternative Investments.
