Allen & Overy recognized for its commitment to the AAPI Community

Allen & Overy (“A&O”) has been recognized by The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) for the impact it has made in the legal profession in support of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.

Each year, the NAPABA Law Firm Diversity Award honors one law firm that actively, affirmatively, consistently, and enthusiastically recruits, retains, and promotes AAPI lawyers to equity partnership and firm leadership and fosters justice and opportunity for the AAPI community. John Hwang, the head of A&O’s U.S. International Capital Markets practice, proudly accepted this award on behalf of A&O at the 2022 NAPABA Convention on November 6.

Featured alongside John in a recognition video sharing their perspectives on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession were A&O’s IP Litigation partner Sapna Palla, who is the immediate past president of the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) and co-founder of the AABANY Leadership Development Institute, and Bijal Vakil, global co-head of A&O’s Technology practice, who has served in many leadership roles within the South Asian Bar Association of North America, the NAPABA Law Foundation Board, and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Silicon Valley (APABA-SV).

A&O’s Chief DE&I Officer for the Americas Dennis Quinio commented, “It is with great pride that A&O accepts this prestigious award on behalf of many within the firm who have worked tirelessly to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession. We are honored to be recognized by NAPABA in the same year as AABANY and APABA-SV for our commitment to creating an atmosphere that promotes DE&I across the firm and our culture, especially as an acknowledgment of the significant contributions of members of A&O’s Asian Affinity Network. I am proud to work alongside these trailblazers in the AAPI community.”

In April of this year, A&O proudly accepted the Law Firm Diversity Award for its commitment to improving diversity and inclusion within the legal profession from AABANY. And just this past September, A&O received the Hope Award for Diversity from APABA-SV, which recognizes law firms whose organizational culture drives diversity and inclusiveness in the legal profession.

NAPABA is the largest Asian-Pacific American membership organization representing the interest of 60,000 attorneys, judges, law professors, and law students. As affiliate organizations of NAPABA, both AABANY and APABA-SV aim to improve the study and practice of law and the fair administration of justice for all by ensuring the participation of Asian Americans in the legal profession within their respective regions.
