A&O today announced that Sapna Palla, a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice has been selected as the 2021 Diversity and Inclusion Champion award recipient by the New York City Bar Association (NYCBA). The award recognizes the critical role individual attorneys play in initiating and sustaining change within their organizations and the overall New York legal community.

According to the NYCBA, the award recipients embody the City Bar’s Statement of Diversity Principles, which defines diversity as an inclusive concept, encompassing race, color, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religion, nationality, age, disability, and marital and parental status. The City Bar has recognized diversity and inclusion champions since the award was created in 2006.

Sapna joined Allen & Overy in July 2021. She is the Immediate Past President of the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) and a member of its Board of Directors and the Co-Founder of the AABANY Leadership Development Institute. Sapna previously served as Co-chair of AABANY’s Women’s Committee. Sapna is Co-Chair of the Patent Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association. She is an inaugural member of Judge Janet Bond Arterton’s Intellectual Property American Inns of Court and is a member of the New York Intellectual Property Association and its Litigation and Legislative Action Committees. Sapna has been honored by City and State NY as “one of the most influential Asian Americans in New York politics and policy” in 2020.

U.S. Senior Partner Tim House said, “Allen & Overy has a longstanding commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion at both the leadership level and among associates and professional staff. Sapna’s commitment to diversity, through her mentorship work and leadership at the Asian American Bar Association of New York, mirrors our own values as a firm to uphold equity within the legal community and ensure that we are elevating our colleagues across the firm for their leadership and advisory. We are very proud to support Sapna in her achievements both inside and outside of A&O and congratulate her on winning this prestigious award.”

The City Bar will present the award to Sapna at a virtual celebration on November 22, 2021.
